We are a married couple in our early 50s. Having made a couple of half-hearted attempts at yoga in the past, and getting to the age where one ought to look after oneself a bit better, healthy and fairly fit though we are, we decided to seek out a local Yoga group. Julia’s group is friendly and focused, with the sessions take place in an atmosphere of tranquillity and supportiveness. As a teacher Julia demonstrates clarity, support and encouragement – encouraging oneself when the capability is there, but also to take care of bodily vulnerabilities. The ten week session is both inspiring and challenging. We look forward to each session and now practise yoga at home in our spare time too. The healing, strengthening, calming qualities of yoga are not to be under-estimated! Our lives, physically, mentally and spiritually, are greatly enhanced through yoga – for which we have Julia to thank. P&K

The ashram experience was awesome, Vishva-ji leads the most inspiring classes and workshop. he is truly inspirational yogi and wonderful person.I will certainly return to the ashram and the Akhanda family in the future ~ Maria

The Akhanda Yoga 200hr teaching training has been such a life changing experience for me. Initially I was looking for to deepen my asana practice, not necessarily to become a yoga teacher, but luckily I have learned so much more than that, and now I can’t hardly wait to be fully qualified to spread the love and beauty of Akhanda Yoga to the world. The teachers are truly inspiring, encouraging and approachable. To study about yoga philosophy is such a beautiful journey which guides us through self-acceptance and self-contemplation. It does require commitment and passion, but you don’t need to be extra bendy or slim or vegetarian to do it, you just need to have an open mind and be willing to open your heart to discover yourself ~ LESSANE ~ Nurse
When I signed up for the YTT, my motivation was to know more about the philosophy of yoga – a journey of self knowledge. I wanted to learn more about what makes yoga so beneficial for the mind, body and soul. During the training I have been inspired by the teachers; their knowledge, their nurturing manner and constant encouragement has led me to believe in myself and my abilities to be a teacher.
I have learnt so much on this course, have made some wonderful friends and have had the honour of being taught my some amazing teachers. Akhanda yoga is an authentic, holistic yoga that really encourages the student to connect with their inner teacher and to take a journey of not only training but self discovery. I’ve tried a number of different yoga classes over the years and having experienced Julia’s classes would never go anywhere else. Many of the classes I’ve been to have been about exercise and who can be the most bendy! Julia’s classes are a completely different experience – she encourages you to really listen to your body and to do what is right for you. Before meeting Julia I had never meditated. In our first session she introduced me to the basic principles of Primordial Sound Meditation its intricate benefits and my own personal mantra which she showed me how to use to meditate. I meditated twice a day for around 30 minutes each time for the first 21 days which was much easier than I imagined it would be and meditating is now a routine part of my life. The effects have been extraordinary, including greater clarity, increased creativity and a greater sense of order and well being in my life. Julia has been a constant support and inspiration to me since I started on this profound, life affirming journey and she continues to offer follow up advice which is hugely helpful to me in my daily practice. Leading a very busy and often stressful life with a lot of travelling, means that one needs emotional and spiritual space and healing on a daily basis, just to cope with the stress. Although I have used meditation for years, the method Julia taught me means that I can take a few minutes when absolutely necessary and meditate on a train or a plane or even an airport lounge! This has made a significant difference to reducing stress levels, especially when travelling. I was diagnosed with cancer in Nov ’09. In the early stages of diagnosis I had no indication how far it had spread. My life was in turmoil. After studying Primordial Sound Meditation with Julia, the meditation allowed me to rest. the first time is still very poignant, the deep sense of peace my body allowed me to achieve. As the days and weeks followed meditation was and is a vital tool … Hospital appointments became routine, but still I was anxious before hand. Meditation allowed me to relax and made me fell I could cope with the procedures on a physical level. During chemotherapy I would feel light-headed, after meditation I felt more comfortable and felt stronger to continue. All through these past months meditation has helped me remain positive, feel less anxious in difficult situations … At all times I have felt in a clam protective bubble. Thank you so much Julia! I decided to learn to meditate after a prolonged period of anxiety. After learning the technique with Julia which, in itself, was relaxing and easy to understand, I started meditating twice a day at home. It is still early days for me but right from the word go I have found the experience relaxing and pleasurable. It still takes at least ten minutes, sometimes longer, for my mind to begin to settle and I frequently have to bring my thoughts back to my mantra but when my mind and body do relax, there is a wonderful feeling of peace and stillness. At the end of the session I feel refreshed and relaxed. There are days when this is more difficult to achieve but I accept that and believe that with time and practice the quality of my experience will reap even greater rewards. DIANE ~ Retired Teacher

The meditation course with Julia was wonderful! I had read and heard about the benefits of meditation for a while, but was always unclear how to start practicing. Julia walked me through the process, and within one session I knew where to begin.
